Vagabond (VIZBIG Edition), Vol. 12 (12)

Three volumes in one! A prestige treatment of Inoue's epic samurai series with bonus content, color pages, storyboard samples and more!

Real-life figure Miyamoto Musashi was the most celebrated samurai of all time. The quintessential warrior-philosopher, Musashi authored A Book of Five Rings, a classic treatise in the canon of world philosophy and military strategy. But the path to enlightenment is an endless journey, and to get there through violent means--by way of the sword--makes mere survival an even greater challenge.

Miyamoto Musashi and Sasaki Kojiro's intertwining paths lead them toward what will be the greatest samurai duel in Japanese history. Sasaki Kojiro heads to Kokura for his new position as sword instructor for the powerful Hosokawa Clan. Meanwhile, Musashi is at a crossroads dealing with the aftermath of single-handedly destroying the mighty Yoshioka clan. After he starts to question his quest to be invincible and his whole reason for existence, will his confidence in himself ever be the same?

Amazing story amazing art but the package came in terrible shape the edges are all bent and there are dents all over. The box it was shipped in looked very beat up and there was no wrap whatsoever. Again this story is amazing and everyone should read it but i cannot reccomend that anyone buy it like this.

I have had a lifelong passion for the Japanese martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do),) including the sword and knife (Wakizashi-Jutsu, Tanto-Jutsu) arts. I also love well done graphic novels with a Samurai theme. One of the questions asked about one of my book reviews about Musashi, was whether I had read any of the Vagabond series? I checked out the series and I decided to purchase this volume (Vagabond Vol. 12 Story and art by Takehiko Inoue) when I saw it on Amazon for a bargain price. This series is based on the Musashi novel by Eiji Yoshikawa. This graphic novel is organized in the Japanese style of reading from the right to the left side. The Vagabond is a fictional account of Miyamoto Musashi and his search to test his skill against numerous other sword and weapon schools. In this story Musashi runs up against a group who are determined to attack them. He beats them all with only the sword sheath. He continues on having to overcome various obstacles such as climbing a mountain and fighting other swordsmen. This tale is also about Musashi having to deal with an attack from someone welding a chain and sickle. This book is filled with clear and unique illustrations to make the text come alive. I never like to give away too much information when reviewing a novel because it spoils it for the reader; however, if you are into the Samurai and Japanese graphic novels this is a series you should check out. It is a fun and entertaining graphic novel. Rating: 4 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Basic Use of the Wakizashi: A Pro-Systems and Bushi Satori Ryu publication).
