Wuthering Heights (Dover Thrift Editions)

Considered lurid and shocking by mid-19th-century standards, Wuthering Heights was initially thought to be such a publishing risk that its author, Emily Brontë, was asked to pay some of the publication costs. A somber tale of consuming passions and vengeance played out against the lonely moors of northern England, the book proved to be one of the most enduring classics of English literature.
The turbulent and tempestuous love story of Cathy and Heathcliff spans two generations - from the time Heathcliff, a strange, coarse young boy, is brought to live on the Earnshaws' windswept estate, through Cathy's marriage to Edgar Linton and Heathcliff's plans for revenge, to Cathy's death years later and the eventual union of the surviving Earnshaw and Linton heirs.
A masterpiece of imaginative fiction, Wuthering Heights (the author's only novel) remains as poignant and compelling today as it was when first published in 1847.

I bought this book for a really good price.. This edition particularly is very cheap. But the font could be little small. But it is completely a readable font. The book was in good condition with no damages. Moving on to the book... It is the best book written by Emily Bronte... It is even more popular than Jane Eyre which was written by her sister. It is a love story and what I love about this book is this beautiful setting. If you have read the book already you would know what am talking about. It also have some gothic elements . And if you want to read this book then I would ask you to read in the Fall season... Because you will just have the best time of your life reading it.

The author had a real gift for describing people, places, and events. Her use of language is quite good. That said, this is a story about toxic people who make the Kardashians and the Trumps look like the Brady Bunch. The housekeeper Mrs Dean is the single remotely decent human being in the whole story. I'm glad I read this, if only to see what all the fuss was about. But I doubt that I'll read it again.

TL;DR: The kindle version from this particular seller is atrocious - buy another version. This is not a review for the book itself (which I love); rather this a review for this particular kindle version. It is clearly some horrible translation and honestly reads like someone put a foreign translation of the book into Google translate to convert it back to English. For example, the first paragraph of this kindle version includes the sentence "Before well, his black eyes were hidden under her eyelids, and her fingers were plunged deeper into the pockets of his vest, to the announce me my name," which is actually gibberish. (For reference, the sentence this should have read "He little imagined how my heart warmed towards him when I beheld his black eyes withdraw so suspiciously under their brows, as I rode up, and when his fingers sheltered themselves, with a jealous resolution, still further in his waistcoat, as I announced my name.")

Review for "Wuthering Heights" listed as published by "CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform Edition." Listed cover is an image of a decayed room painted blue with a long, poorly lit hallway center left of cover. (Since Amazon often mixes up reviews of different editions or different books.) Weird printing, which you can expect from a budget copy of a public domain book. The spine's title is rotated 180-degrees to most book spine's titles. To handle italicazition words are printed in the book with underscores around them _like this_ which is not visible in the preview, but does get to be frequent in pages with much dialogue. No other problems apparent. There is no publisher information on the book itself, seems to be printed on demand as it was marked as created the day I ordered it, which is a nice, personal touch. Heheh Still readable despite _this_ and the spine. I am not mad, but this is not a proud keeper.

A timeless classic. I read this book a long time ago and decided to read it again. Enjoyed it even more as a more mature women. :-) It's a sad story that makes you feel sorry for many of the characters but it's a good escape back to a time and place so different from where we are now.
