Wendy is a passionate believer in the life transforming word of God. I have had the pleasure of reading some of her prior books and this theme is in all her writings. This book focuses on encouraging bible reading in your daily life. It will teach the new Christian how to read and apply the Bible and remind the old Christian why they loved the Word of God in the first place. This 40 day journey will challenge you to move from a bible believer to someone who knows the bible and follows it daily. A change that really will transform your life. I highly encourage you to give it a try.

I have done several sugar fasts and social media fasts using Wendy's other books and was invited to participate in the launch for this one. And I'm so glad that I did! Wendy's focus in her fasting books has always been on leading the reader to hunger for God and His Word rather than the things of this world. In this book, she leads us even deeper with a daily verse, devotional, and longer passage on which to "feast." Wendy invites us to linger at the table in fellowship with our Lord while offering some practical tips on how to make the most of that time. Wendy and her books have helped whet my appetite for God's Word!

Feasting around the table with friends while sharing thoughts from this book will most likely look more like a buffet than a prix fixe meal! Each reader can fill their plate with morsels that feed and satisfy their unique taste buds. Like Wendy’s previous 40-day fasting books, this one follows the same format. Each day’s short devotional message is sandwiched between a scripture verse and a prayer. I love how Wendy gently leads you to a truth, thought and place to examine your own heart and mind. I highly recommend sharing this book with a small group of friends, but whether dining alone or with a party of five, you are certain to satisfy your appetite and feed your hungry soul with a true craving for God’s Word.

“God's Word is where our transformation takes place" The 40 Day Feast works to make bible study accessible to the reader, and draw them closer to Jesus in doing so. Most of us do not read the Bible because it is too challenging to start a book with this scope of story and length. It is a 40-day devotional that is broken into easy to complete daily segments. The chapters are enjoyable and touching as Wendy Speak includes her personal life-long testimony of seeking God in his Word, and always finding Him faithful. To quote the author, “ My goal was not to feed my Jesus hungry friends for another 40 days, but to inspire and equip them to feed themselves for a lifetime.” This book will help the reader to follow processes of how to read and study, or to hone their own system, and create a lifelong bible reading feast.

Wendy Speake’s new book, The 40 Day Feast, is split into two basic sections: why read the Bible, and how to read the Bible. She spends the first half of the book working though all of the reasons why we should dedicate our energy to spending time in God’s word and addresses the objections that might keep us from doing so. The second half of the books walks through a number of strategies for how to approach reading the Bible, such as starting with the Gospels or using a one year reading plan. The core message of the book is this: if the Bible is God’s word and He speaks to us through His word, then we should daily be feasting on this gift He has given us. I especially appreciated the feast at the end of each chapter in the book - usually a whole chapter of the Bible, to help establish the rhythm of daily time in God’s word. I would recommend this book for teens on up, particularly for new believers that need to establish the spiritual discipline of consistent Bible reading.
