A Broken Blade

My body is made of scars,
some were done to me,
but most I did to myself.

Keera is a killer. As the King's Blade, she is the most talented spy in the kingdom. And the king's favored assassin. When a mysterious figure moves against the Crown, Keera is called upon to hunt down the so-called Shadow.

She tracks her target into the magical lands of the Fae, but Faeland is not what it seems…and neither is the Shadow. Keera is shocked by what she learns, and can't help but wonder who her enemy truly is: the King that destroyed her people or the Shadow that threatens the peace?

As she searches for answers, Keera is haunted by a promise she made long ago, one that will test her in every way. To keep her word, Keera must not only save herself, but an entire kingdom.

I really liked this story line. I hope you continue this series. I read a lot and have to say this is one of my favorites.

This book was such a pleasant surprise! I loved every second of it. Well-written. Well-plotted. A damaged, yet incredibly strong heroine. I can't wait to read the next books in the series and I'm excited to follow this author.
I wasn’t sure if this story at first. It took quite a while to get me hooked, 14 chapters to be exact. But once I was drawn in, that was it. Keera is a fantastic MC. Broken, addicted, hateful of herself, but hopeful for the future. Just morally grey enough. The story wasn’t unique, predictable enough, but each character is so likeable and relatable that it kept me wanting more. The characters alone made this story 5 stars for me! Excited for book 2

Truly loved this book. If you like Sarah J. Maas or Jennifer L. Armentrout, you will love this book. Enemies to lovers, badass heroine, bisexual exploration and more. Beautiful book, will read it again and can't wait for the sequels! #keeraforpresident

** spoiler alert ** I truly loved this book, even if some of it did not align with my own particular book preferences. Getting right into it, I'm not a fan of lengthy internal monologue. It was sort of hard at times to push through the first 30% of this book because we spend so much time alone with Keera and her thoughts. This is also the part of the book where everything is new and we are learning about the world system, who our characters are, what they're up to. I think a lot of that was shown in Keera's internal monologue and that's just my personal preference. I'm sure tons of people don't mind it, but I have trouble keeping focus and really need the dialogue to keep my attention going. There are moments of dialogue, obviously, but it was always with meaningless side characters, or characters who you would not be fond of, so I felt that drag a little bit. That being said, the payoff is incredible. A Broken Blade is so well written, with a perfect balance of most things I enjoy in books. I think it's lovely when an author is descriptive to show a lot of imagery, but it can often be overdone and that can be a little tiresome. That isn't the case with this book and I loved that. The story moves at a fast pace once we move along with Keera and our other characters Riven, Nikolai, and Syrra. There is a lot of tension between the characters, so many small plot points that get revealed as we move through the story, interesting world-building, and great character development. Nikolai is that classic jokester character that we all love when reading books like this, and he really helped liven the story up when the other three main characters can be so tense and serious. What I also like is the natural chemistry that forms between Keera and Riven. One of their first encounters initially had me worried that it was going to be instant love but it didn't, and I have a personal theory about the reason for it that I hope will be revealed in the next book! They have every reason to not like each other and to have a lack of trust, and it unravels so naturally and then builds up in a very nice way. My only hesitation is actually how the book ends, as anyone who has read it will know. I'm hoping it will be a certain way, a misunderstanding of sorts, because if not it is quite literally traumatizing. I could feel truly Keera's hurt and disgust at finding out about his secrets after the night they spent together leading up to that moment. I'm just really hoping it isn't as it seems. What I like about Keera is that she's morally gray without being downright distasteful. She sort of is in the beginning because she's quite brooding, but you see her heart bleed all over the page in her interactions with others, like Gwyn. She can be dangerous, a threat, and surly without being a "mean girl." Finally, what I love so much about this book is...
