The Stars are Dying: Nytefall Book 1

An emotional, page-turning beginning to a new epic world with a romance that is both heart-warming and wrenching. A dark romantic fantasy loosely inspired by the Greek myths of Astraea

"The brightest star needs the darkest night."

In a world abandoned by the celestial guardians and left to suffer a tyrant king's reign, all Astraea knows is safety in seclusion. With fragmented memories of only five years of her life, she's determined to discover more about her past, even if that means fleeing the cruel arms that hold her safe from the wicked vampires rumored to roam the land.

But when Astraea stumbles upon the mysterious Nyte, she soon realizes determination alone isn't enough to guard her heart. He lingers like the darkness that expands between the stars, and soon she discovers her captor's wicked means of control weren't based on a lie to keep her under locks after all. In her desperation, Astraea accepts Nyte's help before she can decide if she might have sold her allegiance to one of the bloodthirsty beings the people of her world fear.

Once their bargain is struck, Astraea's chance to escape comes in the form of accompanying her best friend Cassia to the King's Central. There on royal territory it's the centenary of the Libertatem, a succession of trials hosted by the king in which five human lands compete for a cycle of safety from the vampires seeking blood, claiming souls, and savaging after dark. So when tragedy strikes, Astraea must decide if taking the place of a murdered participant for the safety of her kingdom is a ruse is worth dying for, or if protection-and the answers to her past-really are her strongest desires.

This is such a beautiful book for the start of a new series, from the plot to the characters especially Astraea. Astraea is a strong fmc, to go through her journey with her as she tries to piece together 5 years of lost memories is written so well. Her character growth throughout this book is what I love to see and Chloe wrote her journey from the start to the end brilliantly. It has an interesting plot that keeps you intrigued and I just love the MMC. I honestly can’t wait to carry on with this series, the ending sets up an interesting start to book two. A perfect start to a new favourite series.

I’m not even sure what to say right now except I absolutely need more, even just a chapter more because I’m not ready to leave these characters behind!! Rating: 💫💫💫💫💫 First off let me say major kudos to C.C. Peñaranda for writing an amazing start to what I’m positive will be a show-stopping series. As well as allowing me the chance to read this early because… this book was fricken amazing!!! If you’re looking for a book that has a little bit of everything in it then you absolutely need to get your hands on it ASAP. Seriously, I don’t even know how to put into words I loved this book for you guys without spoilers because it feels like all the things I found amazing about this book would be spoilers in some way or another so I’m gonna do my best to express to y’all just how much I love this book without spoilers. Starting off with a the plot! I mean dang I was engrossed from the prologue, I mean I literally couldn’t stop turning the page I just had to know what was gonna happen next… literally until I feel asleep with my kindle next to me 😂. And to give you a brief overview without any spoilers in this book we meet Astraea, who after being found by a man who offered her “love” and safety from the vampires that haunt and rule, as well as a past she can’t remember, has now entered a game of trials in order to try and keep a promise as well as protect her kingdom. All while a mystery man guides her from the shadows. Will she win the trials and keep her people safe, or will the scales tip in favor of those who are beyond vampiric rule and ignite a war she never wanted a part of? And then we have our main characters, Astraea and Nyte. I fell in love immediately… if I’m truly honest I feel in love with these characters when I saw the art work on Peñarandas Instagram. Once I started reading though I was hooked!! Astraea was amazing and I loved watching her growth from a naive, sheltered young women to a women desperate to learn more, to be braver, and to take charge of her own destiny. Then there was Nyte, morally grey bordering on straight villain, banter and innuendos for days, and a fierce devotion, possessiveness, and protectiveness for those he deems worthy of his care. A book boyfriend everyone can get behind. Honestly, two characters I’m so sad I’m going to have to read more about! Truly though y’all this book has everything. You want political intrigue it’s there, you want fantasy violence in the form of trials pitting kingdoms “selected” against one another, you want spice (minimal bit there), you want banter that will keep you laughing or egging on our main characters, or maybe you want a romance that burns slowly but leaves you begging for more? Well your in luck because the stars are dying literally has all of that… so if you’re not convinced to pick up with boom I truly don’t know what else to say 😂 ...
