my daughter is a nature lover. So this book worked well when she was working on cursive. She enjoyed writing the sentences that went along with each animal. it is a lot of writing so depending on the child it may be better to space the writing out over several days for each letter. we found this book to be very useful. I'm sure that I will order another one for my son when he is ready for cursive.

The order of the lessons in this book is based on similar strokes rather than alphabet. Although the logic makes sense from a similarity perspective, that was confusing for a child who expects the learning to be the order of the alphabet. But once explained this was useful to teach my 7 year old daughter how to write.

I purchases several books on cursive writing for my four nephews, ages 4 to 12, because apparently this wonderful art form is no longer taught in public school. I reviewed this book and it looks a lot like the workbooks we used back in the 1950's when I was in 3rd grade. In order to properly rate this book, I will have to find out, next year, if the boys actually used it.

Correct letter forms - F, T & some others are made up forms in other books but this book has standard letter forms. Have used other books from this publisher to teach my 8 year old cursive. IMO this book is for kids who already know how to write the letters & are ready for more writing practice with words & sentences.

This is a pretty good cursive writing practice book but there are a few things that may be helpful for you to know before you buy it. First, it goes alphabetically and not in the order of pen strokes. So if you are looking for a book that begins with small "i", then goes to "l" and "t", etc. this book does not do that. Each letter gets 4 pages of practice, 3 that have the first letters/words on some lines (not all) and then one page that is entirely blank for "sentence practice." Lastly, these are large, K-1st grade lines, not smaller lines which some kids in 3rd+ grades should be using. I am finding that my 4th grader has poorer handwriting when he writes this large, and such practice "bleeds" into is other schoolwork making his writing hard to read on regular lined paper. By 4th grade, most students really should be practicing their cursive in a much smaller font. So, I would say this is a fine K-2nd grade practice book, but not so much after that. I like the idea of learning cursive by strokes, as well, so this, again, gets my vote for general practice, but not for initial cursive learning.
