Didn't See That Coming: Putting Life Back Together When Your World Falls Apart
The New York Times Bestseller
Fear. Grief. Loss. Betrayal. Rachel Hollis has felt all those things, and she knows you have too. Now, she takes you to the other side.
With her signature humor, heartfelt honesty, and intimate true-life stories, #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hollis shows readers how to seize difficult moments for the learning experiences they are and the value and growth they provide.
Rachel Hollis sees you. As the millions who read her #1 New York Times bestsellers Girl, Wash Your Face and Girl, Stop Apologizing, attend her RISE conferences and follow her on social media know, she also wants to see you transform.
When it comes to the "hard seasons" of life-the death of a loved one, divorce, loss of a job-transformation seems impossible when grief and uncertainty dominate your days. Especially when, as Didn't See that Coming reveals, no one asks to have their future completely rearranged for them. But, as Rachel writes, it is up to you how you come through your pain-you can come through changed for the better, having learned and grown, or stuck in place where your identity becomes rooted in what hurt you.
To Rachel, a life well-lived is one of purpose, focused only on the essentials. This is a small book about big feelings: inspirational, aspirational, and an anchor that shows that darkness can co-exist with the beautiful.

I read this in one sitting but plan to revisit this as needed as I am trying to navigate this new life at the end of my 32 year marriage. I hope to go forward as a better, happy and healthy me in this next chapter of my life. My biggest concern is bitterness and feeling stuck in the grief. Rachel Hollis laid everything out there to grow and get through the grief of a loss, whether from a death or divorce. Good read with very practical and real life suggestions and ideas to become who you want to be after this difficult season of your life. Not overly faith based or in your face in any way. Best of luck and God bless anyone going through a difficult time. We can do all things through Jesus Christ who strengthens us. Have faith!

Thank you for giving us that hope in the midst of this chaos... that we are experiencing these days; I loved the chapter with which you ended up clinging to hope and the words with which you closed this wonderful book and now I DID NOT SEE IT COMING, thank you Rachel Hollis for opening your heart in the midst of your pain! God bless you!!

I was attending a digital marketing conference in February 2019 and noticed one of the breakout and keynote speakers was Rachel Hollis. I thought, wait, is that who wrote some book I kept seeing floating around Facebook? This was my first introduction to someone 15 years younger than I and could she possibly teach me anything? I quickly grabbed a copy of “Girl, Wash Your Face” and was determined to make it into her break-out session. (And I sat front row.) While I couldn’t relate to all 20 chapters in the book, I was certainly attracted to her energy and honesty and learned a little more about myself as well in “Girl, Stop Apologizing” and have recommended it to friends. I started following Rachel and Dave and their Morning Show in May 2019 and was so bummed to miss the chance to see them in a neighboring state that summer at Rise Minneapolis but quickly found myself at Rise Business in Charleston, Rise Ft Myers as a VIP, and two Virtual Rise events as well. I joined both of her coaching programs (and am currently in Dave’s) and really considered her one of my 5 most people I “hang out with”. I have missed my daily Rach fix and am honored to receive an advance digital copy of #didntseethatcomingbook to review from the publisher This book is raw. Honest. Humorous (it wouldn’t be a Rachel Hollis book without bodily parts mentioned and the toot toot part is the best!) This book is relatable. We both lost brothers tragically on the same day, September 29th. Loss and grief are inevitable in this world. Once again Rachel shares from her inmost being so that others can know they are not alone. As she said, “Every single chapter from here on out is about trying to help you get through the place you’re in.” This book will remind you that YOU matter and that “you are who you want to be.”

This book has been amazing! I loved Girl Wash Your Face, I struggled with Girl Stop Apologizing but I don’t think I was in the right head space for the second book so I’m going to try it again. Didn’t See That Coming has me laughing, crying and unpacking a lot of things. It’s also given me some tools that are very helpful in my current season. I’m not a strong reader so finishing it in 4 days has really drawn me in. Because of Rachel’s divorce and all the online chatter that goes along with people not understanding I almost walked away from reading her stuff, this past week I’ve watched videos, listened to podcasts and read most of her book. I don’t know why they got divorced, that’s not mine to know. What I do know is that I don’t live inside their life. They did a podcast on how they struggled and were working through in their marriage. They had enough content to fill a weekly podcast with how they worked through issues, if that wasn’t a sign that maybe their marriage was rough I don’t know what is. I’m wishing them both the best and I refuse to cancel on them because I don’t agree with everything they do in their life. Although the book mentions covid and it mentions the divorce, this book is based on hard times and not covid or divorce. If you’ve been through hard things and you’re ready to push through this book is for you. If you’ve not then it won’t click just like her second book didn’t click with me at the time I read it. I’m working to Show Up everyday in all aspects of my life. My goals for last 90 days are simple yet challenging. Excited to end 2020 on a great note because it was a different year and I chose Joy. Still struggling to pick up the book because you’re confused about her divorce. Go to YouTube and watch the interview with Rachel called “pandemic and divorce” and then listen to her interview on Trent Shelton’s podcast. We are all human and our perspective might be what’s holding us back.

This is definitely my favorite (so far) of her collection!
