Heartbreaker: A Hell's Belles Novel (Hell's Belles, 2)

New York Times bestselling author Sarah MacLean follows her highly acclaimed Bombshell with Heartbreaker, featuring a fierce, fearless heroine on a mission to steal a duke's secrets…and his heart.

A Tempting Thief

Raised among London's most notorious criminals, a twist of fate landed Adelaide Frampton in the bright ballrooms of Mayfair, where she masquerades as a quiet wallflower-so plain and unassuming that no one realizes she's the Matchbreaker…using her superior skills as a thief to help unwilling brides avoid the altar, all while hiding her own scandalous past.

A Powerful Duke

Henry Carrington, Duke of Clayborn, has spent a lifetime living in perfection and has no time for the scandals that arise every time Adelaide ends another groom. His own reputation is impeccable-and the last thing he needs is a frustrating, fascinating woman discovering the truth of his past, or the secrets he holds close.

A Perfect Match

When the two find themselves on a breakneck journey across Britain to stop a wedding, the duke has no choice but to follow her across Britain on a trip filled with bad weather, bad luck, and a surprising lack of beds. Adelaide soon realizes that this perfect duke kisses like a proper scoundrel, and is turning out to be a thief in his own right…one who won't stop until he's stolen her well-guarded heart.

"Get ready for regency romance and badassery! MacLean returns to England, and this time pairs up an unlikely couple: a secret thief masquerading as a wallflower and a spoiled duke. Hijinks and heat ensue as they race across Britain to stop a wedding." - Book Riot

"Bestselling author Sarah MacLean's Regency romance novels are always worth getting excited about, and Heartbreaker is no different." - Popsugar

"Romance readers can always rely on Sarah MacLean to bring the summer heat." - Bookish

"...filled with intimate thoughts, delicious yearning, and many sighworthy romantic moments... Subplots regarding the Hell's Belles' clients and targets add great tension to the book, while the women's friendship brings levity and humor. But it's the quiet, vulnerable moments between the central couple, who embrace each other as true equals, that will ensnare reader's hearts. Sublimely sensual and passionate." - Kirkus Reviews

"Everything MacLean does is perfectly on point." - Booklist

"MacLean gathered accolades for the first in her "Hell's Belles" series (LJ star–earner Bombshell), and this book continues on that high note with a great deal of wit, heart, and heat. Smart writing, deep characterizations, and a zippy pace will keep readers immersed while MacLean's deft hand at a number of romance tropes simply delights. An essential title from a key author, buy in droves and share with fans of Erica Ridley." - Library Journal (starred review)

What can I say about this stunningly beautiful and deeply emotional romance that hasn't already been said? Sarah does emotional better than anyone and as an already emotional person, I just adore it. These Hell's Belles novels are exactly what we all need in a post-Dobbs world full of uncertainty, loss of choice and the overwhelming feelings of weakness. These books make me feel strong and capable. Sesily might be one of my favorite characters ever written but Adelaide is what I call a "heart character". She's a character that speaks directly to my heart and someone I have no trouble finding myself in completely. I am an Adelaide. So thank you Sarah for writing someone that feels so much like me...and giving her a man like Henry.

# I was in love with this book right from the first chapter. The first few pages had me hooked in the story and were rooting for Adelaide and Henry. The book is absolutely bada** and packed with action and heartwarming romance. A road trip romance follows Adelaide and Henry as they journey through England at a breakneck pace to stop a wedding. I adore Sarah Maclean’s writing and this one hit the mark for me yet again. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. This was book two in the Hell’s Belles series and if you haven’t read the first book, Bombshell, I would highly recommend it. Even though this book could be read as a stand-alone, I would definitely recommend reading it as part of the series as these women are absolutely amazing and you don’t want to miss out on any of their stories.

This book has it all! From the jump, Sarah MacLean drops you into the chaotic world of Adelaide Frampton, where there's only one bed, only one chair, only one carriage, and only one duke who matters. The master thief of an all-female vigilante crew, Adelaide is used to being invisible, so when the Duke of Clayborn keeps showing up and 'seeing' her, it throws her off her game. In a deft twist, MacLean imbues our heroine with my favorite MacLean-hero traits. From ignoble beginnings that lead to a life half-lived in shadows, with skills and wits enough to make it on her own, and a deep seated impulse to self-sacrifice to save the people she loves, Adelaide is a force to be reckoned with. Enter immovable object, Henry, Duke of Clayborn. Watching these two knuckleheads figure out how to love each other on this road trip romp was a delight. This second book in the Hell's Belles series did not disappoint! Bring on Imogen and the Duchess!

Such a good story with unforgettable characters. This second installment of the Hell's Belles series is even better than the first. Adelaide Frampton is from the slums of Lambeth and the daughter of a crime lord who is now pursuing justice with her chaotic band of friends. Mostly she goes under the radar except for Henry Carrington, the Duke of Clayborn, who notices every pocket she picks in Mayfair. When they need to team up to rescue his eloping brother and his betrothed, it is fireworks! Henry is one of the best heroes I've read about in a romance lately. He's passionate, caring, and unafraid to show his feelings for Adelaide, no matter how much he might mistrust her at first. Adelaide is a bit insecure, but Henry brings out the best in her and shows her how well they work as a team. She doesn't think she fits in, well, anywhere, but Henry and her friends show her how wrong she is. The other Hell's Belles make appearances and are a delight. I can't wait for Imogen's story. This is such a fun series and one of Ms. MacLean's best.

The first novel in Sarah MacLean's Hell's Belles series - Bombshell - was all about the last unmarried Scandalous Talbot sister, Lady Sesily, and though her story was a glorious study in impropriety, her female crew of misfit maverick vigilantes took center stage - and it appears Hell's Belles' fans get their wish to learn more about Sesily's gal pals! Heartbreaker, the second HB installment, is the story of Adelaide Frampton (long, lost cousin to The Duchess😉) and Henry Carrington, Duke of Clayborn. You might remember Adelaide and Clayborn meeting at a dinner party hosted by the Marquess of Havistock in Bombshell... it did not go well... Adelaide is a prodigy pickpocket, ex-slum-maiden turned secret society warrior of injustice, AND an unnoticed, easily forgettable wallflower (quite possible, I assure you). The Duke of Clayborn is... privileged, without humor, dry as dust, and dismissive of the Hell's Belle's hijinks... or is he? He has silently watched Adelaide for almost two years. She is not unnoticed by him. She certainly is not forgettable. He is also a trailblazer for change in the House of Lords - one might even consider him... passionate... Kris Whiskey & Wit Book Reviews
