Heaven Official's Blessing: Tian Guan Ci Fu (Novel) Vol. 2

THE TOUCH OF A HAND, A ROLL OF THE DICE

Xie Lian has confirmed that the bewitching youth San Lang is actually Hua Cheng, one of the Four Calamities and a supreme ghost despised by all heavenly officials. Still, he has trouble matching the terror of his companion's reputation with the charming, clever, and protective young man he's come to know.

When a distress signal leads Xie Lian into Ghost City, a bustling metropolis containing all the horrors and delights of the dead, he sees Hua Cheng in his element-and his true form-for the first time. But despite their chemistry and care for one another, there are missions to fulfill and secrets to uncover, and Xie Lian's centuries of troubled history are never far behind.

The book was delivered yesterday in perfect condition. There weren't any rips or folds. The cover art is so pretty and reflects under the light a bit. It's just as beautiful as vol. 1's cover. I read this novel series online a few years ago. It's one of my favorites. It's great. I was really excited about the English copies releasing and I will be preordering the rest of the series soon~
I’ve been long awaiting the official English translation for a while, and I’m so happy to support the official author MXTX!!!

First off, I want to say I wanted to like this story. Two books in and it’s still suffering from pacing and story development. I thoroughly enjoyed SVSSS Vol 1, and liked TGDC even with its less than stellar translation. HOB lacks in translation, pacing, and character development. Second, the choice of the publishing house to split the arcs of this story the way they have is not helping the already problematic pacing of this story. The first arc would’ve been better served in one book. Having the second arc start the second book would’ve also been better than having 20% of this book from that arc. The storyline already meanders and has pacing issues that bog the story down both in terms of plot and character development. The choice to split it the way they have only makes it worse. The translation felt better in some spots than in the first volume, however, their choice of ‘informal’ language is poorly done and problematic. They seem to be basing it off AAVE, but they are doing it incredibly wrong. AAVE has its own grammar and structure. I will continue to read the translations because I would like to see the publisher bring more translated novels over, but they really need to rethink how they publish these stories to do them any justice.
