Heavy Crown: Illustrated Edition (Brutal Birthright)

This book had me crying 😭😩 after all they’re still in mafia world. You can never be so sure who is telling the truth. Sebastian and Yelena. This series got me on chokehold.

Heavy Crown is the 6th and final book in Sophie Lark’s Brutal Birthright mafia series. I had such a great time with this whole series and am so glad I finally got to it! I already can’t wait to jump into the Kingmaker series which is a spin-off/next gen from this series. I loved how the story starts and we see Sebastian with his siblings! I just love the Garro family and seeing him together with Aida, Dante, and Nero was so much fun. Sebastian played basketball in college and after an incident in book 1 left him with a crushed knee, he hasn’t felt the same since. While out one night he sees Yelena almost getting shoved into a car and steps in to help her, they end up spending the night together and hit it off. Yelena is 25 and the only daughter of the most vicious bratva boss in Chicago. Once we hop into Yelena’s POV, we learn that her father wants to use Yelena to get to the Italian mafia family that he hates and that’s why he pushed her towards Sebastian. I enjoyed seeing Sebastian and Yelena together, seeing them date and start to genuinely fall for one another while adventuring around Chicago together. The whole time you are just waiting for the other shoe to drop because you know he’s going to find out her father is using her to get closer to the Gallo family. So much starts happening in the book that I wasn’t expecting. We see a blood contract, her relationship with her twin brother, revenge, the wedding scene omg! 😱 I loved the epilogue and huge time jump, what a great setup for the Kingmaker’s series!

I think this was a good end to this series. I loved them all, and this one was certainly no exception. I did feel as though the relationship was a smidge rushed and underdeveloped, but the other pieces of the plot were very hard to ignore. I did like how enamored they are with each other & how Seb wants to know everything about her & considers her feelings in everything he does. Overall, I would recommend this series to anyone!

This series was recommended to me, and I avoided reading it for a while, because I was not interested in the theme of a mafia romance. However, one day, I decided to try the first book in the series, and I was hooked. To be frank, the book has some of the best sex scenes I have read in a while, which surprised me. I also love that the main characters are not either good or evil/black or white. They are complex, like most of us are. I also love the thread of family loyalty that runs through the whole series. The only reason why I gave this book (and basically the entire series) four stars instead of five is that I feel like the relationships between the love interests could be developed a bit more before the action starts. I understand that the author wants the books to be readable and move at a fast pace, but I just felt like sometimes it was even too unrealistic for all of the lead characters to meet and fall in love so quickly. The strategy in the mob scenes is good and just detailed enough, so I thought a little bit more time could be spent on character relationship development. All in all, I plowed through all six books in less than two weeks. Definitely worth the read, and I am looking forward to reading the spinoff series.

What an amazing book to end the Brutal Birthright reign!! No spoilers! BUT THAT PART! (IYKYK) OH MY GOSHHH, I LITERALLY HAD TO PICK MY JAW OFF THE FLOOR. I just knew he was going to wake up & it all be a dream. I was DISTRAUGHT! But revenge is bittersweet indeed🤌🏼 I truthfully didn’t love Yelena as much as the girls in the previous books, BUT I still enjoyed reading their story. Another 5/5⭐️ for me. I absolutely loved this entire series 💗
