Her Secret: The Amish of Hart County

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray begins a new series-The Amish of Hart County-with this suspenseful tale of a young Amish woman who is forced to move to a new town to escape a threatening stalker.

After a stalker went too far, Hannah Hilty and her family had no choice but to leave the bustling Amish community where she grew up. Now she's getting a fresh start in Hart County, Kentucky…if only she wasn't too scared to take it. Hannah has become afraid to trust anyone-even Isaac, the friendly Amish man who lives next door. She wonders if she'll ever return to the trusting, easy-going woman she once was.

For Isaac Troyer, the beautiful girl he teasingly called "The Recluse" confuses him like no other. When he learns of her past, he knows he's misjudged her. However, he also understands the importance of being grateful for God's gifts, and wonders if they will ever have anything in common. But as Hannah and Isaac slowly grow closer, they realize that there's always more to someone than meets the eye.

Just as Hannah is finally settling into her new life, and perhaps finding a new love, more secrets are revealed and tragedy strikes. Now Hannah must decide if she should run again or dare to fight for the future she has found in Hart County.

I loved this book. It was suspenseful. And yet there is a calm feeling too. I want to read them all.

Another series of books from Author Shelley S. Gray, are welcome in our home. Shelley has a way of getting "her foot in the door" with her Amish novels. I love the characters, and I have a hard time putting the book down!! This book has had all sorts of emotional experiences and I truly enjoyed! I like to buy the whole series at the same time, so the stories don't have to end, so quickly, and I can just read the next one!! I especially liked the second book in this series, "His Guilt", also. If you need a new read, please buy this series, and if you enjoy these even half as much as I did, you won't be disappointed~ and then can look for the next 2 as well!

A good book but a few dumb scenes. I’m sorry, but if you’re hands are tied in front of you and your kidnapper leaves you use your teeth to undo the ropes. If you have a gag you can still make noise in your throat. Whatever. Dumb weak women aren’t my cup of tea.

Excellent portrayal of Amish people and the private and public lives they may live. They face hard times as do all Americans but in a way peculiar to their beliefs.

Her Secret is a book that completely draws you into the story from page one. Hannah Hilty is a young lady in an Amish community that is being stalked by an Englisher. When this Englisher becomes more brazen and sends her pictures of her when she is dressing for bed, she and her family move to a community in Kentucky called Hart County. Due to the trauma that Hannah has faced, she keeps to herself and that earns her a nickname, the Recluse. She also has to deal with the frustration her teenage sibling feel about having to leave their home and their friends. Isaac Troyer has seen Hannah around the community and considers her to be true to her nickname, but when he meets her and sees her beauty and then later learns the trauma she has suffered, he changes his opinion. He befriends her and introduces her to members of the community and begins to feel protective of her. Hannah begins to relax and become a part of Hart County. She gets involved with a fundraiser and begins to develop feelings for Isaac. Hannah's siblings also begin to feel bad about the frustration that have shown Hannah, and begin to support her and as a result those relationships become stronger. They are completely caught off guard when they learn their father didn't just move to Hart County to escape Hannah's stalker, he has his own reasons for moving. Those reasons shake the foundation of the family. Just as Hannah and Isaac begin to relax and form a solid relationship, Hannah's stalker finds her. The difference this time is Hannah does not have to face him alone. She has Isaac and her siblings to help her. They decide this time not to allow Hannah to play the victim and get the Sheriff involved. Even with all of that support, the stalker continues to victimize Hannah. Isaac begins to question whether he can protect her and if he is the man for Hannah. When things take a dangerous turn, Isaac faces the truth about his feelings for Hannah and the community pulls together to help her. Her Secret is about a family where there are secrets everywhere. It seems most members of the Hilty family have a secret. When all of those secrets come out, the healing begins. The ending of Her Secret was so fulfilling as well. It is beautifully written and features all the element to be a best seller.
