I bought this on a whim. I did not know Jordan from anything but "The Help". Apparently he in a social media darling. Regardless, his stories are interesting and often funny. I bought the audiobook and absolutely love listening to him. If you want some light reading, you cannot go wrong with this.

My first copy of How Y'all Doing? was a hardcover and the day it arrived, I tore right through it. It's a fantastic read but I felt like something was missing. After a while, I realized it was because I was reading Leslie Jordan's story but I wasn't hearing it in Leslie Jordan's voice. Once I confirmed the audiobook version was narrated by Leslie Jordan, I then bought the CD version as my second copy. There's a scene in an episode of The Cool Kids where Leslie Jordan's character Sid, fed up with a disrespectful little girl at a roller rink, emphatically tells her, "I have lived a life." This book makes me think of that line. It's a collection of stories from various points in his life. At times, the flow from one story to the next seems a bit scattered, like completely unrelated strings were tied together for no apparent reason but when you get to the end, the pattern suddenly becomes clear. I've been a fan of Leslie Jordan's since I was a teenager watching Will and Grace. His character Aiden was one of my two favorite characters in Living the Dream, his show The Cool Kids was pure gold and throughout the Covid pandemic, his Instagram posts have brought joy, life and perspective whenever things felt their bleakest. There's something ineffable about Leslie Jordan - he brings a truly special light and energy to everything he does. It was a true joy to hear these stories from his life.
