Long Shadows (Memory Man Series, 7)

From the author of The 6:20 Man, "Memory Man" Amos Decker-an FBI consultant with perfect recall-delves into a bewildering double homicide in this new thriller in David Baldacci's #1 New York Times bestselling series.

When Amos Decker is called to South Florida to investigate a double homicide, the case appears straightforward: A federal judge and her bodyguard have been found dead, the judge's face sporting a blindfold with two eye holes crudely cut out, a clear sign that she'd made one too many enemies over her years on the bench.

What at first seems cut and dry is anything but: Not only did the judge have more enemies than Decker can count-from violent gang members, drug dealers, and smugglers to a resentful ex-husband-but the bodyguard presents additional conundrums that muddy the waters even further. Who was the real target in this vicious attack?

Meanwhile, Decker must contend with a series of unsettling changes, including a new partner-Special Agent Frederica "Freddie" White-and a devastating event that brings Decker's own tragic past back to the present . . . and forces him to reckon with his future. As potential witnesses start disappearing, Decker and White are inexorably pulled down a twisted tunnel of secrets, crimes, and scandal-at the end of which lies Decker's deadliest threat yet.

Editorial Reviews

"The plot gets complex, with suspects galore. But the interpersonal dynamic between Decker and White is just as interesting as the solution to the murders, which doesn't come easily . . . The pair will make a great series duo, especially if a bit of that initial tension between them returns . . . Fascinating main characters and a clever plot add up to an exciting read."―Kirkus Reviews

"Baldacci is to be congratulated on how he sets up the story, creates three-dimensional characters, and layers seemingly unrelated situations one on top of the other until the resolution becomes startlingly clear. Fans of Baldacci's 'memory man' character will be highly satisfied with Long Shadows and anxiously await the next installment in the series."

This was a good read, but /the beginning was too slow, too plodding. It took way too long to get to the point. But once it started moving, it got better. Maybe this book was rushed to publication too soon, so too much fluff and padding was added.

I am never disappointed in an Amos Decker book. I Joe there are many more to come. I enjoy David Baldacci's writing style immensely, he always knows how to grab you from the start and never let the ride get boring. I have read almost all of his books and Amos is by far the best character!

I follow several authors and their ongoing hero’s. To say the Memory Man series is different doesn’t begin to do it justice. I have been an avid reader my whole life. This series, hands down, is my all time favorite. Amos Decker is special but all too human. The plot of this story is so full of twists and turns you will be amazed at the outcome. Settle in for the best read in quite some time.

This is one of my favorite authors. Amos Decker is one of my all time favorite characters. In this story Amos is so much more complex and the more human side of him comes through. This is a very fast paced thriller that takes so many twists and turns but is so good you cannot put it down. Trying to figure out who the bad guys are is impossible so do not even try, just get this book and read it. Enjoy!

This is a kind of locked room story. Two people killed within minutes of each other in the same house; one with two 9mm shots to the chest and one stabbed ten times in a great bloody mess. The story has many layers and lots of possible perpetrators. It is finished by a subplot that has our hero rethinking his life and his place in the world. The story is complicated but everyone introduced has a part that fits and contributes to the plot. This story is elegant, beautifully plotted and still has a happy ending. Thank you, David. I could not put it down until I read the last page.
