This is probably one of the most truth filled books I’ve read regarding the Trumps administration and the time he spent serving America. I have much respect for Mr. Pompeo and the outstanding work he did as Secretary Of State of the United States of America. I pray he will again someday soon choose to serve again , our country needs more people like Pompeo.

The book is from a former Secretary of State but don’t expect any parallels in content to Henry Kissinger, James Baker, George Schultz, or more modern diplomatic memoirs from Collin Powell or Madeline Albright. This book is categorically a political book like the kind proffered by rank elected officials seeking higher office in an election cycle (and full of the usually expletives, crusading moralisms, and sweeping generalities that are the hallmark of such forgettable texts). This book is many things but a landmark memoir of a vital and even profound period of history it isn’t. A shame because much good was done under his watch, from Abraham Accords to North Korea summits etc. but alas we must wait for a historian’s views instead to one day shed light on this time.

I have read this book. Never Give an Inch. Fighting for the America I Love is about Foreign policy. But not JUST about foreign policy. It is about Politics. But not JUST about politics. It is about Leadership. But not JUST about leadership. It’s about Family and how Mikes job affected and still impacts his family. And there are great stories. I was thinking about the best line in the book. There are many ranging from “I prefer my grass steamed” to “I’m still trying to kill you”. But my favorite is on page 75 when Mikes’ wife Susan says “It’s been a lovely dinner party”! This book is evidence of how God prepared Mike starting as a child, to lead our country. From being on a basketball team in high school, to military training at West Point, to serving. And meeting his lifelong friends and partners at school. Learning law at Harvard, moving to Wichita Ks where he started two companies and met Susan. Then the building blocks from Congress and the committee he served/knowledge gained, to CIA (coolest job ever) to the State Department. Where all of his experiences were tapped into. Most of all Mike leaned on his faith in God and doesn’t hide his reliance on our creator.

I could not put Never Give an Inch down—it’s SO good! Well written, fascinating, informative, and funny! Secretary Pompeo shares behind the scenes accounts of the headlines we saw and the stories we should have seen during his 4 years of service in the Executive Branch. The best part is he shows how being a Washington outsider is one of his biggest assets. He’s businessman from Kansas, served his Country in the Army after graduation, felt called to serve his fellow Kansans in Congress, and then called to serve his Country again in the Executive Branch. Most importantly he is guided by his love of God, love of family, and love of America! I recommend anyone and everyone to read this book. It’s not just any political book. It tells fascinating, informative, and some funny stories that anyone can (and SHOULD) read!

The story is very well written. The account of his service to our great country is very enlightening and true to life. I followed Trump's term in office and was always impressed how Secretary Pompeo conducted himself. He is a smart guy. I love this country too and it is good to know there are those who will stand up to the bureaucracy and "never give and inch" when it comes to protecting America and her citizens.
