The 6 Types of Working Genius: A Better Way to Understand Your Gifts, Your Frustrations, and Your Team
New York Times best-selling author Patrick Lencioni unveils a truly groundbreaking new model that will change the way we think about work and teams forever.
The 6 Types of Working Genius is the fastest way to help people identify the type of work that brings them joy and energy, and avoid work that leads to frustration and burnout.
Beyond the personal discovery and instant relief that Working Genius provides, the model also gives teams a remarkably simple and practical framework for tapping into one another's natural gifts, which increases productivity and reduces unnecessary judgment.
In classic Lencioni fashion, Pat brings his model to life in a page-turning fable that is as relatable as it is compelling. He tells the story of Bull Brooks, an entrepreneur, husband, and father who sets out to solve his own frustration at work and stumbles into a new way of thinking that changes the way he sees his work, his team, and even his marriage.
What sets this book-and the model behind it-apart from other tools and assessments is the speed at which it can be understood and applied, and the relevance it has to every kind of work in life, from running a company to launching a product to managing a family.
In addition to this book, Lencioni and the Table Group have created a 10-minute assessment that helps individuals quickly identify their gifts and apply this model to themselves and their teams. This book and the model within have helped me identify all of the reasons why it was time to leave the job I was at for something that I had a greater say in. Almost a year after the decision, and seven months after implementation my work life and how we handle things at home (best argument preventer ever!!!)are better than ever. And yes, I know the book just came out, but I have been following the Working Genius model since its first discussion on the "At The Table" and later "The Working Genius" podcasts.

The 6 Types of Working Genius by Patrick Lencioni is destined to become another best-seller! This book is written in Lencioni’s standard style of a fable. The story explains what everyone can relate to with their job and many mixed emotions including joy, guilt, frustration, accomplishment and all of these boiling down to just plain grumpiness. When we discover the God-given talents that give us energy and joy, apply them to our jobs and relationships, true inspiration, understanding and happiness can be ours. Read this insightful and practical book, take the assessment and find out your Working Genius.

If you care about your experience of work, or the experience of those you lead, get this book and put it at the top of your reading list. As a team leader, I've never seen a model or framework have so many positive benefits on my team so quickly. Realizing my Geniuses are Wonder and Invention both energized my high-level conversations, and helped me regulate those Geniuses when the company needed to discern or finish a project. The 6 Types of Working Genius brought great empathy, joy, and results to my team within hours. It naturally became a part of our nomenclature. You can read the book in one sitting. The assessment takes less than 10 minutes. What could be better??

The 6 Types of Working Genius cut to the heart of working effectively for me and my team. We used to get frustrated with each other for not following through, but now we celebrate how we work best and follow through together. The Working Genius model and assessment is simple, practical, and transformational. Patrick Lencioni's premise is that all work has six steps, but we only get energy, joy and fulfillment from two of them. The fable he tells in The 6 Types of Working Genius isn't mythology; it's real life and can really change the way you work. I love that instead of focusing on each other's hardwired personalities and idiosyncrasies, my team and I now focus on what moves each of us to get stuff done...and get stuff done productively together!

This book by beloved author and organizational development guru Patrick Lencioni is profound in its simplicity, dead-on accuracy and relevance to job, career, leadership and personal success! Everyone has 2 Working Geniuses, two Working Competencies and two Working Frustrations. The Working Geniuses are the types of work on any project, large or small, professional or personal, that give you energy and joy. The kind of work you can do all day long and not feel burnt out. Working Frustrations are the type of work that you may do well and may have to do a lot of in your day-to-day - and in your heart of hearts, you know you dread it, don't like it . . . never have and never will. This book teaches us that we can let go of judgment and guilt about our own frustrations, as well as the frustrations of others. We can stop asking people to be what they aren't, at work and at home. We can apologize for the past and start a clean slate with incredible insights as to our colleagues at work and our family members. Yes, we can find joy and connection at work! This book presents a highly accessible framework for how.
