The first two books by Drew Dewalt were so well written and so engaging, so I was super excited about this new back to school book. The first surprise was it is much smaller. The book itself is about 6“ x 8“ (not 10x10 like the others ) but I moved past that and dove into the book. Nothing like the others. It’s written for a much younger audience with pretty much no story, and none of the cleverness that was included in the previous stories. Disappointing for sure.

My daughter loved the first Crayon book and she equally loves this one too.

I have always loved these books since my daughter was little and received them as a gift. I now buy them for my friends children.

I often see a lot of negative reviews lobbed towards the smaller books in the series, but I don't understand why. Sure, they don't contain the character-driven journey and page-length provided in the first two books. But for kids who have grown to love the series for what it is, the smaller tomes are quick reads that provide just as many smiles. We've read this one multiple times now and I often find my kids reading it (and the other smaller issues of the series) on their own. Great for budding readers and story-time enthusiasts, you can't go wrong with The Crayons.
