The premise of the old lady and the scarecrow is cute and interesting, but the story isn’t snappy at all. It dropped the ball, even with the repetition trying to deflect the lack of a good story. It sounds outdated and it just doesn’t tie itself up into a great story you want to read over and over— too many threads left hanging. My 14yo autistic son and I had a short convo about the book and that’s where the opinions above came from. I hate criticizing writers! But I also don’t like being disappointed in a book I buy for my Grandbaby.

I was read this book throughout my childhood around Halloween and when my kid's second Halloween rolled around I decided we needed a copy for our home. Just as cute as I remember it, but two years old may be a little young for this book. She still listens to me read it, but I still think it's a bit wordy and advanced for her age. I'm sure in the not too distant future she will be obsessed with it.

This was a great book that invited partication from kids. I volunteered to be a mystery reader at my granddaughters second grade class the week before Halloween. Sounded great when I volunteered, but then I started to get really nervous. By trade I teach college students— what did I know about second graders? So I called my sister who taught second graders for nearly 40 years. This was the book she recommended, and it was perfect. All the kids participated and we had great laughs and a good time. Recommend this book, particularly around Halloween.

This is a great book. Great for ages 2 all the way up. It’s always hard buying a book without holding it and reading it for yourself but this is a great book!! They also interact with the book while you read. I have kids 3,5,6, and 8. They loved reading it

I would give this a million stars if I could!! I have had the original copy of the story since childhood (top of each image). My son loves this story. He asks to read it almost every night. Since Ive had the book for almost 20 years, it has been well loved & well used. It was literally falling apart. It was time to replace it. I found the story on Amazon & ordered a copy. I am SO thrilled at the quality. The pages have an added gloss to them, colors are so much more vibrant, & the "spooky words" have some added color to them as well & it makes it so much more fun! So many "remakes" from my childhood have been cheap & the companies have clearly cut corners to save money. Not this one! This book is so much better than the one from my childhood. We were so pleasantly surprised. Very delighted at the quality & the price!!! ?
