Editorial Reviews

Praise for The Magical Yet:
"When children are old enough to do things on their own but are frustrated because they struggle with their nascent abilities, this enchanting picture book introduces them to their limitless potential by way of Yet, that oh-so-important word that encourages them to have patience with themselves as they continue to keep trying." ―Lacey Vorrasi-Banis, Entertainment Weekly

"Oh, I love this one! This is a book about resiliency and how you might not be good at something... yet. The Magical Yet is by your side helping you as you learn and grow. The adorable illustrations feature a diverse group of children, but everyone will be able to see a little of themselves in this book because of the topic."

―Kathleen Shea-Porter, Buzzfeed

"With splashy artwork and catchy rhymes, the creators give families and educators a tool that spurs kids on to success."―Publishers Weekly

"The depictions of difficult situations, such as learning to ride a bike, learning to dance, or practicing painting, are sure to strike a chord with children struggling to pick up something new, and the positive outcomes brought on by practice and perseverance are sure to inspire readers to never give up. A lovely addition to picture-book collections."―Booklist

"The artwork is powerful and detailed....A solid if message-driven conversation starter about the hard parts of learning."―Kirkus Reviews

With bright colorful, illustrations and an inspirational message, this 2021 picture book is a great substitute for Dr. Seuss's popular Oh, the Places You'll Go!"―Bookriot

Loved this story so much for many reasons. First, the message of the book. Second, the main character is POC which can be pretty hard to find. Third, the illustrations are beautiful and so colorful. I highly recommend this story. I read it to my class and still have students telling me "Yet!" when things they can't do or struggle with comes up.

I love this book!!! I teach 2nd grade, and teach that “yet” is one of the most important words in all the world. I have found a few cute poems to introduce the concept, but this book will be perfect On the first day of school, and as a reminder throughout the year. I can’t wait to share it with my class!

I purchased this book for my 7 year old as part of our growth mindset unit. I'll be honest I had to weaned down to a couple choices and selected this one bc the illustrations are phenomenal. I was happy to see the message was well portrayed as well. My daughter made me read it with her 3 times the first night we had it! The personification of "yet" also leaves room for a fun art project, we each drew our own Magical Yets to help us out. 10/10

I love books that include characters of a multitude of races without making the story ABOUT race. Don't get me wrong, books that are about race and/or cultures are wonderful too. But don't kids of all skin tones deserve to see themselves (and others) in all kinds of different stories? It would be so great to find that more and more illustrators and authors of children's books realize that there should be children of all ethnicities in stories that are just plain fun stories for every kid.

New things can be tricky. It doesn’t matter if you’re learning a new skill or adapting to change happening all around you. Things will not always be easy. In fact, sometimes they feel impossible. That’s why it’s important to remember the Magical Yet.⁣ This new rhyming book from Angela DiTerlizzi and Lorena Alvarez has an important message about having a growth mindset. I hope it inspires children to keep dreaming and to keep going, even when things get hard. It would be a great book to share at the end of the year with your students!⁣
