The Pout-Pout Fish

The first book in the New York Times bestselling Pout-Pout Fish series from Deborah Diesen and illustrator Dan Hanna!

Deep in the water,
Mr. Fish swims about
With his fish face stuck
In a permanent pout.

Can his pals cheer him up?
Will his pout ever end?
Is there something he can learn
From an unexpected friend?

Swim along with the pout-pout fish as he discovers that being glum and spreading "dreary wearies" isn't really his destiny. Bright ocean colors and playful rhyme come together in Deborah Diesen's fun fish story that's sure to turn even the poutiest of frowns upside down.

Mine and my husbands new favourite children’s book. Our five month old loves us putting on different voices for the different characters. The rhyming is fantastic and the repeated chorus is great and very catchy!

Extremely disappointing. I should have read the one star reviews, but I saw the overwhelmingly positive praise and didn’t think to. The whole book is about telling the pout pout fish to smile more because the other animals would like him to. It’s ridiculous. The conclusion is a fish coming up to him and kissing him without his permission and then he decides he’ll be a kiss kiss fish and go around kissing instead. What is the lesson here? This is not a book to help toddlers understand their big feelings. This is a book that encourages stopping people on the street and telling them to “smile more” and kissing without consent. Seriously. What am I missing? The illustrations are beautiful, I’ll give it that.
