The Red Book (A Billy Harney Thriller, 2)

Detective Billy Harney's reputation as a dirty cop may be the only thing keeping Chicago clean in James Patterson's most critically-acclaimed thriller since The Black Book.

For Detective Billy Harney, getting shot in the head, stalked by a state's attorney, and accused of murder by his fellow cops is a normal week on the job. So when a drive-by shooting on the Chicago's west side turns political, he leads the way to a quick solve. But Harney's instincts -- his father was once chief of detectives and his twin sister, Patti, is also on the force -- run deep. As a population hungry for justice threatens to riot, he realizes that the three known victims are hardly the only casualties. When Harney starts asking questions about who's to blame, the easy answers prove to be the wrong ones. On the flip side, the less he seems to know, the longer he can keep his clandestine investigation going ... until Harney's quest to expose the evil that's rotting the city from the inside out takes him to the one place he vowed never to return: his own troubled past.

For lying about the number of pages again. Good story by Ellis. Maybe if Jim added something other than his name, we could get a lengthy novel worthy of the cost.

The Red Book was every bit as good as The Black Book but so totally different. The story line holds your interest throughout the entire book and the twists and turns keep you guessing.

I love James Patterson novels. I have to say The Black Book is probably my favorite (The Michael Bennett series is a close second). The Red Book was an interesting read, it didn't pull me in like the 1st book. But my expectations were super high. Actually, I am looking forward to the 3rd book in the series. The first few chapters has already pulled me in! 😊

I could not put this book down once I began reading it !!!! One thing, I had to be alert as I read through each chapter in order to keep the characters straight in the beginning. This book was very well written as usual for James Patterson and had the ups and downs of intrigue and excellent compositions I am used to with his books. Well done again.

I adored the book with these characters , The Black Book, so there were a lot of expectations going in. I was hoping for another home run. Expectations met. It was actually different from the previous book, Billy was more in control of his life and his case assigned to him, but Billy was great fun to read about yet again. Also the book was different, a few more bodies and more action. If you haven’t read the first book, I think you would still enjoy this, but I would suggest you go back and read the previous book. It was great. Note to Billy.....your sister loves you apparently but I’m not sure she is the stable one in the family. I don’t want to say more, no spoilers for new readers.....but Billy, your sister doesn’t have a very high opinion of you 🤭🤭 Looking forward to more collaborations with Judge Ellis and Mr. Patterson.
