The Wish

From the author of The Longest Ride and The Return comes a novel about the enduring legacy of first love, and the decisions that haunt us forever.

1996 was the year that changed everything for Maggie Dawes. Sent away at sixteen to live with an aunt she barely knew in Ocracoke, a remote village on North Carolina's Outer Banks, she could think only of the friends and family she left behind . . . until she met Bryce Trickett, one of the few teenagers on the island. Handsome, genuine, and newly admitted to West Point, Bryce showed her how much there was to love about the wind-swept beach town-and introduced her to photography, a passion that would define the rest of her life.

By 2019, Maggie is a renowned travel photographer. She splits her time between running a successful gallery in New York and photographing remote locations around the world. But this year she is unexpectedly grounded over Christmas, struggling to come to terms with a sobering medical diagnosis. Increasingly dependent on a young assistant, she finds herself becoming close to him.

As they count down the last days of the season together, she begins to tell him the story of another Christmas, decades earlier-and the love that set her on a course she never could have imagined.

What an absolutely beautiful story! If you’re a fan of Nicholas Sparks, then you won’t be disappointed. I have felt that some of his recent books weren’t that great or even believable, but this book feels like he has returned to his better, earlier years of writing. Definitely movie worthy!

I love Nicholas Sparks books. The Wish is an excellent book. I read it in less than twenty four hours! I could not put it down.

I very rarely write reviews, I just rate. But I just had to write one one this book. I have never been disappointed by any of Nicholas Sparks book. I couldn't put this one down. Such an endearing story. I so hope this one is made into a movie. I feel in love with Maggie as a young girl, a grown woman and as the story unfolds with her life. I cried and cried and will probably read it over and over again as I do many of Nicholas book. Well worth my time and tears. Thank you so MUCH Nicholas for such a touching story.

I love Nicholas Sparks, but this book was just awful. I figured out the ending very quickly.... but that's not the awful part. Spoiler alert: Ugly, depressing, and scary cancer death. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way, and it's not entertaining to have the cruelty and brutality of the disease described in minute detail. I finished the book (not sure why I did) and found myself depressed and sad. I'd give this one a hard pass. Terrible.

No spoilers here. I wouldn't want to ruin your experience. Sparks just has a way of taking you along for the ride. I could feel the breeze and taste the salt water. Such a well written story, I ended with incredible joy and deep sorrow at the same time. Well done sir, I appreciate your talent more than you could possibly imagine
