The Witcher Boxed Set: Blood of Elves, The Time of Contempt, Baptism of Fire (Witcher, 1-3)

NOW A NETFLIX ORIGINAL SERIES

This special boxed set includes the first three novels in Andrzej Sapkowski's New York Times bestselling epic fantasy saga-the books that inspired the hit Netflix show and the blockbuster video games.

For over a century, humans, dwarves, gnomes, and elves have lived together in relative peace. But times have changed, the uneasy peace is over, and now the races are fighting once again. The only good elf, it seems, is a dead elf.

Geralt of Rivia, the cunning assassin known as The Witcher, has been waiting for the birth of a prophesied child. This child has the power to change the world -- for good, or for evil.

As the threat of war hangs over the land and the child is hunted for her extraordinary powers, it will become Geralt's responsibility to protect them all-and the Witcher never accepts defeat.

In Blood of Elves, The Time of Contempt, and Baptism of Fire, Sapkowski brings a fresh new voice to fantasy fiction, creating something wholly original in this dark and exciting world of magic, monsters and witchers.

Editorial Reviews

"This is a series you can sink your teeth into."―BuzzFeed News

"The universe of Sapkowski's The Witcher is one of the most detailed and best-explored in modern fantasy, offering endless opportunities for fresh ideas ... Complex character relationships enrich this already complex world; this is the sort of series fantasy fans will cherish."―B&N

"One of the best and most interesting fantasy series I've ever read. Though it functions well as adventure fiction, it has added depth and value as satire and commentary on fantasy literature ... Sapkowski is a genuine stylist."―Nerds of a Feather

"Like a complicated magic spell, a Sapkowski novel is a hodgepodge of fantasy, intellectual discourse, and dry humor. Recommended."―Time

The Witcher book series is the best book series I have ever read, there is not a single bad book in the entire series including these three. As for the shipping the books came on time with very little damage. however don't read these ones first read the last wish and sword of destiny first.

Only 3 books. Saw other reviews from india showing 7 books and that's why I ordered the box set. Disappointed.

This is one of the best series I've read in a long time. I often find myself during my free time slipping away to read the work of Mr. Sapowski and losing myself in the world that he has created. A world set in a time of medieval Kings, their politics and their wars, as the backdrop to a much deeper story wrapped within the magic and folklore that was fleshed out in the previous books: The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. This world of humans and non-humans and their harsh realities intertwine with the story of the main character and his destiny. Geralt is a fierce warrior when he needs to be yet his neutrality often paints him as a patient and wise observer of the cruel world of which he inhabits. He is not infallible, however, and his fate so often leads him towards difficult positions which force him outside of his comfort zone and sees him dealing with the aftermath of his own decisions. I do not wish to deprive you of the chance to discover this world for yourselves and therefore I hope you purchase this and enjoy it as much as I have. I would like to add, however, that this is only books one through three and therefore you must purchase The Tower of Swallows and Lady of the Lake separately to complete the story. On a different note: The shipping of this and a separate order with two other Witcher books I ordered did not arrive in the best shape. Be aware that the packaging and protection used may be minimal at best. If you wish them to be in perfect condition then I suggest looking to your local bookstore.

First, it is a very good deal for all 3 of these books. I bought the paperbacks so my son can read them too and someday my daughter may. So, I love the universe this author has created! So many mythologies, fantasies and monsters all melded together makes it a great read for book lovers of all types. The main character Geralt is a strong and likeable character, it just feels like we don't get spend enough time with him, unfortunately. The author jumps around ALOT from character to character in most of the books and it becomes annoying (but not until the 4th book). Ciri is a main character and we meet her around the age 12 I think and I'm not sure if it's cultural or lost in translation but I feel like this young girl who will be extremely vital to this universe is to immature and petulant. Either the author has zero experience with little girls or just not a very high opinion of them. My daughter is 10 and I sometimes feel like I'm conversing with an adult when we talk. I know we all went through the teen angst but come on! She must have some street smarts and wisdom she's a princess and supposed to save the world! My biggest beef is with the final book, (book 5, not included with this set) which I haven't even finished yet, I've lost so much interest. I read the first 3 books (the ones in this set) in about 4 days! Mostly because I just wanted to keep finding Geralt. I immediately ordered The last 2 and they went much slower. The author bounces from character to character and from past to present so much and so unnecessarily that I haven't picked up book 5 in weeks. I just want to read the story and get to the conclusion already. The writing overall is not the greatest, but I suspect it could be the translation it may read better in it's original polish. Still I enjoy it and I'm looking forward to the Netflix series and someday I will finish the final book to see if Ciri saves the world or not.
