This book succinctly describes a way to get the benefits of a keto diet while focusing on lower lectin (or pressure cooked) vegetables, the right fats and timed feeding and the science behind how all of that works. It's info I really appreciate and will be acting on, but I would have liked to have seen more action plans offered, such as how best to incorporate red light therapy or how to use different types of fiber to combat hunger while practicing intermittent fasting, etc. That info is available elsewhere, but incorporating it here would help those who are new to some of those ideas. I have all of Dr Gundry's books and already understand the importance of minimizing lectins, but those who've mainly focused on keto in the past won't get a real overview on the benefits of lectin avoidance here, which would be useful to those who will be adding more veggies back into their diet. Still, the main topic, the science behind how ketones really work and how their actions (and those of other actors who offer similar benefits) can transform our health as well as our weight is covered well. I'm looking forward to what the lectin-free community does with this info; I think the action plans and the integration of all of the information into a holistic mito-boosting lifestyle will probably come from them. As someone who has both benefitted and been negatively affected by a traditional keto diet in the past, I'm excited to try it again with this new approach. This book is a good place to start.

I enjoyed this take on Keto. It sounds a s though it’s something I can adhere too. If nothing else, it is heavy in explaining the cell processes which helped me to understand why we need to eat or not eat certain foods. I am going to try this one.

I loved this book. It really delves into the science behind keto, and shows you that the real power of keto lies in the power of "mitochondrial uncoupling," a process in which a cell actually wastes energy and calories, resulting in weight loss! Ketones is one way in which your body can be triggered to waste energy and lose weight. However, Dr. Gundry offeres 8 other ways in which one can trigger the body to lose weight besides keto: (1) intermittent fasting, (2) eating foods with polyphenols, (3) eating foods with lots of fiber, (4) eating fermented foods, (5) eating foods with polyamines, (6) exposing your body to short bursts of cold temperatures, (7) exposing your body to short bursts of hot temperatures, (8) using red light therapy. My wife and I are in our 60's, and we have been living a keto lifestyle for 3 years now. We absolutely love keto, and we do it the right way. Keto can be done the wrong way (i.e. not eating enough nutritious vegetables, not eating enough fiber to feed your intestinal bacteria, and eating chemical-filled nonorganic meats and cheeses). My wife and I daily eat 2 avocados, 1 cup of organic steamed broccoli, 3/4 cup walnuts, and a 3-egg omelet cooked in coconut oil. We also take Dr. Gundry's suggestion of intermittent fasting by intermittent fasting; we actually take the radical approach of eating only once a day, to give our body the maximum benefit of intermittent fasting. We also take Dr. Gundry's suggestion of drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water before our meal. Dr. Gundry has helped us take our keto lifestyle to the next level. We have literally been able to rid our body completely of all our prior health issues: prediabetes, low thyroid, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, arthritis, psoriasis, and allergies. We weigh what we weighed in high school, and we actually feel better when we felt during our teen age years. Dr. Gundry is a genius. All his claims are backed with science. He includes all his sources (i.e. medical studies) to back up his findings. My wife and I recommend this book to everyone who wants to improve their health!!!
