What the Road Said
What the Road Said is the New York Times-bestselling comforting and uplifting picture book from bestselling poet and activist Cleo Wade.
Which way do I go?
That is your choice to make,
said the Road.
But what if I go the wrong way?
The Road curved a little,
almost as if it was giving me a hug, and said,
Do not worry. Sometimes we go the wrong way on our
way to the right way.
It's okay to be afraid or to sometimes wander down the wrong path. Bestselling poet and activist Cleo Wade's What the Road Said features illustrations by Lucie de Moyencourt and encourages us to lead with kindness and curiosity, remembering that the most important thing we can do in life is to keep going.

I read this book to my 16 month old and it made me cry. It’s so beautifully written, not just for kids but for adults too. Such an inspiring book.

If you need a graduation gift, I have found an amazing children's book (perfect for any age) called "What the Road Said" by Cleo Wade. It is an inspirational read perfect for when life is up in the air, and you don't know which road is next. It inspires leadership and kindness, and encourages perseverance. It seems like the Dr. Seuss "Oh the Places You'll Go" is a common gift choice, but I can't stand Dr. Seuss. This book is much more thoughtful, inspiring, and one to just quickly reread when you need to be uplifted. I am giving it to my daughters and their friends and hope they will take it to college with them and know they are supported from home.

This book is wonderful for young readers, beginning about age 4, but also great for adults of any age, including seniors. It has a deeper, more complex message for adults, and offers hope and encouragement to anyone questioning himself, experiencing a life transition, or just trying to navigate the daily challenges of life. I buy multiples of this book, and offer it as a gift for all kinds of occasions. Great to have stashed for an emergency “ I care about you” gesture.

This book should be read by anyone and everyone, young and old. Beautiful message!
