A Light in the Flame: A Flesh and Fire Novel (2)

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes book two in her Flesh and Fire series…

The only one who can save Sera now is the one she spent her life planning to kill.

The truth about Sera's plan is out, shattering the fragile trust forged between her and Nyktos. Surrounded by those distrustful of her, all Sera has is her duty. She will do anything to end Kolis, the false King of Gods, and his tyrannical rule of Iliseeum, thus stopping the threat he poses to the mortal realm.

Nyktos has a plan, though, and as they work together, the last thing they need is the undeniable, scorching passion that continues to ignite between them. Sera cannot afford to fall for the tortured Primal, not when a life no longer bound to a destiny she never wanted is more attainable than ever. But memories of their shared pleasure and unrivaled desire are a siren's call impossible to resist.

And as Sera begins to realize that she wants to be more than a Consort in name only, the danger surrounding them intensifies. The attacks on the Shadowlands are increasing, and when Kolis summons them to Court, a whole new risk becomes apparent. The Primal power of Life is growing inside her, pushing her closer to the end of her Culling. And without Nyktos's love-an emotion he's incapable of feeling-she won't survive her Ascension. That is if she even makes it to her Ascension and Kolis doesn't get to her first. Because time is running out. For both her and the realms.

Yet another amazing story! The twists and turns had me laughing and crying! Literally could not put it down and had it read within a day. The 2nd part to Nyktos and Sera’s story was exactly what it needed to be with the right amount of emotion, hope and spice! Would absolutely recommend if you’re looking for a world to escape into.

Such a great series, from start to finish I haven't wanted to put it down. Books are a great size for the price. The characters are awesome the world building is amazing. There's always something happening. I honestly have no idea how I'm going to wait for the next one.

As much as I enjoyed reading this book it did leave me feeling a bit flat when I finished it. If I try to sum up what happened it’s incredibly difficult because actually, not a lot happened. The story didn’t really progress much at all so although it was enjoyable, I guess I wanted a lot more. It’s the same issue that I’ve found with the latest Blood and Ash books. There’s a lot of talk, very little action and actually when you stop to think about it, very little story or plot. I will read the conclusion because I enjoy the characters, but I just want more to happen to make it worthwhile, especially when the paperback copy is so expensive. Also I had bought the paperback instead of the hardback so it would match with the previous in the series since the hardbacks weren’t available in the U.K. before but the paperback is a very different size to the predecessors so it doesn’t match anyway.

Let me just say something right off the bat, you guys are not ready. Armentrout has once again created a masterpiece. A devastatingly beautiful story, that will have you wanting to strangle some characters a few times, and an ending that will probably have you gasping and wanting to physically harm a specific character in a way you never thought before! A Light in the Flame picks up right where A Shadow in the Ember left off, like right after that bombshell revelation about who Sera actually is and sadly how close her end might be. Before we go any further, a reminder once again, this review will contain major spoilers from book one, so please don't read past this point!! So Sera is very set on her ways to complete her duty. I completely understand that Sera was insistent on going to Kolis and continue with the initial plan that was set for Nyktos, but her instance also came about because she found herself being cared for. For the first time in her life someone actually cared about her wellbeing, someone is there for her if she wants to talk, simply put, someone is there for her. And she has no idea what to do with it. As we learned in book one, Sera carries the Embers of Life. The reason why Daddy Nyktos' daddy (get it, daddy? because Ash is daddy Nyktos and I'm talking about his actual dad? No? Okay, I'm cool I promise!) made the deal with her family and the reason why she is meant to be his consort, his Liessa, his queen. Because she carries the Embers in her, Nyktos is trying his hardest to keep her safe (also, because he really likes her and he likes her sexy body), keep her alive until he can figure out a way to remove the Embers without harming her and without her loosing her life if she Ascends. The problem with Nyktos' plan is that he expects Sera to value her life more than she actually does, for her to stay still and to not run into battle any chance she gets and to not be willing to still fulfill her duty, "make him fall in love with her and then kill him." But "him" it's not Nyktos, it has never been. It's Kolis. The fake Primal of Life. Sera finds herself without purpose and a realm of possibilities she never expected to have. She is sort of spiraling and the only ways she can cope with the knowledge that Nyktos was the wrong primal, she is the reincarnation of Kolis' human obsession, she might perish before she turns 21 (which is coming up in just a few months) and that Nyktos can never actually fall in love with her, is by being a bit... destructive. Sera is willing to risk her life to make sure no one dies protecting her and do whatever is in her power to restore balance with the Primals, even if it kills her. Nyktos is also... stubborn. Some of the decisions he made had me wondering what in the hell he was actually thinking when he d...
