Editorial Reviews

"It's not just nostalgia for mac and cheese and fried bologna sandwiches, although recipes for both are in there. The book is full of recipes that most people could cook at home, and be happy they did. Peanut butter chocolate chip cookies? Check. A chopped salad? Yes. Dijon salmon? Uh-huh. Faux-tisserie chicken and vegetables? Here for it." - Quartz

Even if you don’t make not one recipe from this cookbook, it’s a hilarious read! From the OG Munchies to his Dominoes Game Night menu, I am loving this! I’m sure I’ll have many butter stained pages in no time!

I love this cookbook. I actually borrowed this from a friend, and then ended up just buying it for myself. I have made multiple recipes from this book. I included a picture of his orange chicken. I have also made the spaghetti and meatballs twice (and plan on making it again and again!), the peanut butter choc. chip cookies, and the gumbo. All of them are seriously so good. No, there is no "special" ingredients, just amazingly delicious food. Was actually thinking of doing a "Snoops Thanksgiving" this year! Would DEFINITELY recommend and would absolutely gift this to family and friends.

Fans of Snoop Dogg have known for years that Snoop loves to cook. And it’s been pretty much inevitable since the premiere of Martha and Snoop’s Pot-Luck Dinner Party that we would get a cookbook from Snoop, with or without Martha Stewart. Lo and behold: From Crook to Cook: Platinum Recipes from Tha Boss Dogg’s Kitchen (with “Opening Words” by Martha Stewart). Co-written by Ryan Ford, this volume from Chronicle Books is packed with recipes, in standard categories like breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts (including a section in each category called “OG Munchies), and additional categories for drinks (including “OG Gin and Juice,” of course) and parties. As you might expect, many of the recipes have tongue-in-cheek names, like “Hey Auntie Banana Puddn,” “Baby Got Back Ribs,” and “Spaghetti De La Hood.” There are also nods to Snoop’s favorite herb throughout. For example, Snoop’s “greatest recipe,” the “Bow Wow Brownies and Ice Cream” instructs home cooks that adding “a sprinkle of Snoop’s herbs and spices” will make the recipe even better and encouraging them to “Go get baked!” The book isn’t just gimmicks, however. The recipes are legit, and each one is photographed in full color, with clear, easy-to-follow instructions. Each recipe is preceded by a paragraph about why the recipe is included – whether it’s “a certified hood classic” or a recipe encountered for the first while on tour that has become one of his favorites. It’s a fun, eclectic collection. One of my favorite things about the book is that when I read the introductions, I can hear Snoop’s voice in my head – he translates very well to the page. I also loved the pictures of what’s in Snoop’s pantry and refrigerator and his notes about why each item deserves a place in his kitchen. Whether you’re interested in the cookbook for kitsch value or you want to eat like tha Boss Dogg, From Crook to Cook is a fun addition to your cookbook collection!
