Kingdom of the wicked - Kerri Maniscalco - (Spoilers free) Straight away I knew I was going to enjoy the characters, Emilia being the narrator we follow started as a good girl, one who always followed the rules. Then you got her sister Victoria who thought rules were meant to be bent and tested. When Victoria is killed it changes Emilia making her determined to avenge her sisters death. This spur her too summon a demon, Wrath. One of the wicked princes. Together they have to team up and their two personalities clash making them fun characters too follow. Definitely atmosphere there! We have witches dying, Demon princes walking on earth, tension between the two main leads. The writing is great building the world and the setting making you fully immersed in the story. Great, great plot this is my kind of read and was exactly what I was looking for. Paranormal, Fantasy romance, bringing interesting characters, a world you want to know more about, mystery intrigue and romance. The reveal and ending left me hungry for more... I really enjoyed this book, it exactly what I was hoping for going in and I wasn’t let down will definitely be picking up the sequel.

“Whatever you do, you must never speak to the Wicked. If you see them, hide. Once you’ve caught a demon prince’s attention, he’ll stop at nothing to claim you.” Such an intoxicating and riveting book! Kingdom of the Wicked is a dark enemies-to-reluctant-allies-to-lovers fantasy revolving around witches, demons, mystery and magic and I enjoyed every moment of it! Set in beautiful Sicily, the story revolves around Emilia and her twin sister Victoria - witches living secretly and up until now, peacefully among the humans. Then, a tragic and brutal murder sets Emilia off on a quest to hunt down her twin sisters murderer and take her revenge. Emilia is brilliant- a resilient yet naive and inexperienced heroine that finds strength through her love for her family. She is compassionate and super brave and her love doesn’t have limits for her sister, even if it means making a deal with an evil demon Prince. But just how far is she willing to go?   Then there’s the swoon worthy Prince of hell himself! Wrath is dangerously wicked in every way and yet truly irresistible. The chemistry between him and Emilia is fabulous- lots of hatred and snarky banter between the two until romance eventually appears to blossom. If you enjoy enemies to lovers, magic, supernaturals, a mystical world and lots of delicious food, then this gorgeous story is for you.

‘Kingdom of the Wicked’ follows Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria, witches who live secretly among humans in order to avoid notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family’s renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin, then sets off to seek vengeance at any cost – even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden. This book has been my most anticipated read of the year, being a huge fan of Kerri Maniscalco’s works and admiring her skills as a writer. So, there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to love this book, I just didn’t expect to love it quite this much. Emilia made for an absolutely brilliant protagonist. She’s brave, self-assured and slightly stubborn at times. She’s someone who takes no nonsense, not even from demons from Hell, and is desperate to avenge her twin sister, no matter what that would cost her. She’s an incredibly admirable protagonist, and it was a joy to read her journey from start to finish. Wrath was another character who was deeply enjoyable to read about, exploring his relationship with Emilia with the use of luscious description and bouncing dialogue. They interacted beautifully together, spitting bile at one another until their relationship softened more and I loved every moment I read about them. Although, Vittoria wasn’t mentioned much within the novel, her character meeting an unfortunate end quite early on, there was still a lot of character modelling involved in Maniscalco’s writing. This was a brilliant technique, making you feel for the characters after her death and caring about them; I was truly devastated, Emilia and Vittoria’s relationship being wonderful to witness up until that point. The writing itself is wonderfully written, with lengthy descriptions and entertaining dialogue. The setting was explored beautifully through interactions between the characters, with explanations dotted around for those experiencing language barriers. That’s not to say that this book holds your hand however, being subtly done to not draw you away from the story itself. Overall, I adored this book. Maniscalco truly has a talent for writing and that shines through in this novel. It was an absolute joy to read and I will be returning to it again and again.

Kingdom of the Wicked is one of my most anticipated fall 2020 books, so I was thrilled to read the ARC! This atmospheric and compelling tale is the story of twins Vittoria and Emilia, both streghe. Streghe are witches who secretly live among humans, keeping their magic secret. When Vittoria goes missing, Emilia is horrified to discover her murdered body. In pursuit of her sister’s killer, Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked and a Prince of Hell. As she retraces Vittoria’s last steps, Emilia must decide how to use her magic and whether to trust what she’s always been told is evil. Kingdom of the Wicked is a story about the intense love of sisterhood, family, and magical tradition. There is a masterful attention to detail regarding the colors, scents, and tastes of this world and it creates a truly immersive experience. The carefully crafted descriptions of food are mouth-watering!! I felt utterly swept away to a dark and stormy world where magic stalks the steps of the ordinary. Emilia is a very determined and relatable character. I really enjoyed seeing her grow in confidence and power throughout the book. I can already feel that Wrath is going to be a fan favorite and he certainly was one of mine! I'm looking forward to seeing more of him in the next book! This book is magical, fun, and clearly only the start of what will be a fantastic series. I can’t wait to learn more about the complex magic system and see Emilia grow even more in her magical power. The ending will leave you absolutely craving the next book!
