Lover Arisen (20) (The Black Dagger Brotherhood series)

True love brings a deadly threat to the Black Dagger Brotherhood in this sizzling new novel in J.R. Ward's #1 New York Times bestselling series.

Possessed by the demon Devina, Balthazar is once again on the hunt for the Book of Spells-and fighting an undeniable attraction to a woman. As a thief, he has stolen a lot of things…but he never thought his heart would be taken by another. Especially not a human.

As a homicide detective, Erika Saunders knows there is something otherworldly going on in Caldwell, New York. Mutilated bodies that cannot be explained are all over her case list-and then there are her nightmares in which she's hunted by shadows and captivated by a mysterious man who is both a suspect and a savior.

When Devina's wish for true love is finally granted, Balthazar and Erika unwittingly become the gateway for the rebirth of an old enemy of the Brothers. Will the very thing that brings them together lead to the ultimate destruction of the Brotherhood? Or will they have to lose everything in order to save the race's most sacred defenders?

This series gets better with each book and I don't say that lightly Absolutely loved it, my only complaint is the length of time between each book, totally unacceptable lol My advice as always is if you are new to this world start with the first book as the story follows a timeline and each book follows on from the last Enjoy! 😉

The 20th BDB book is everything you expect and desire in one of the best selling series to ever exist in the book world! Dark, sexy, humorous, heart wrenching with unbelievable twists and turns that never cease to drop your jaw, Lover Arisen is certainly one of the most exhilarating reads of 2022! Balthazar is for sure, one of my favorite heroes from BDB. He is fierce, protective, sexy, smart and a heck of a fighter. And Erika couldn't be a more perfect fit for him. Their story is captivating and a heck of a thrill ride full of danger and secrets being revealed and surprises that leave a reader begging for more. I couldn't read fast enough! J.R. Ward has been a favorite author of mine for years. The BDB series is one of the most unforgettable series and the one I can't imagine ever missing out on. The world gets more complex with every new book that comes out and there is never a dull moment. Every emotion comes to the surface and I want to feel them all again and again. Balthazar and Erika's story is like a drug I can't live without. One of the best stories ever! Lover Arisen gets a FIVE JAW DROPPING AND ENTICING STARS! A MUST OWN THIS SECOND READ!

Thank you JR Ward - a lot of different feels in this book. Happy for some characters, sad for others. So looking forward to Lassiter's book.

So, I know she's well into this book series of which Lover Arisen is book 20. But she is also wasting a lot of creative energy on side series that she could devote to wrapping up her Brotherhood series. Before I get started, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. So turn back now. Devina is a waste of character. Her fascination with ugly handbags aside, she doesn't have much to offer to the story. She is underdeveloped and boring. How boring is she? She's so boring Ward had to resurrect the biggest villain of all time: that's right, Lash. Hopefully he will happily rip her apart and pick his fangs with her bones. Balthazar and Ericka suffer from the same affliction as Devina. Little or no development. Their romance is meh, their sex scenes are snore fests and when they finally get together I'm already over them. Despite the fact this book reads like it was scribbled on note cards and tacked up randomly on a corkboard and handed off to someone from Team Waud to type up and send off to the publishers there are interesting pieces hopefully Ward will build a far superior story upon. The return of Lash was a great bit to the story and should have been more of a focus. In fact I think he should have killed Devina right away and went to work like he did in his first book pulling together resources and taking command. That would have licked the Brotherhood into shape and zapped them in the hey nannies. Ericka and Balthazar's story could have been about tracking the book, and unbeknownst to them, Lash. This works better than the scrambled murder for Ericka and Balthazar trying to keep Devina out of his leathers. And I know we like to hear from other characters, but really, the story about Rhayven and Lassister and Nate was not well thought out. Pulling in another more minor character makes the story set over crowded to where the reader doesn't know who to care about and decides not to care about any of them. I do like the notion of someone for Lasiter to love for his own, but I believe there are other approaches and Rhayven's character just isn't very well developed, it's hard to know where she fits and how she relates to Lassiter. Finally, the defiling of Lassiter was an unnecessary storyline. There were other ways to conflict the two and bring them in and out of each other's purview.
