Delicious Disney: Walt Disney World: Recipes & Stories from The Most Magical Place on Earth

Walt Disney World honors its fiftieth anniversary with "The World's Most Magical Celebration," an incredible 18-month event that begins October 1, 2021. As part of the festivities, Delicious Disney: Walt Disney World is a holistic look at the Florida resort's culinary past, present, and future―all organically woven around diverse recipes from the Disney Chefs and fit for home chefs of varying skill levels.

After the success of Disneyland, Walt Disney wanted to build something more elaborate and with more room. Ultimately, it was Walt's brother and business partner, Roy O. Disney, who brought forth his sibling's dream―and made it a reality―when the Magic Kingdom opened in 1971. More than fifty years later, we still celebrate Walt's dream, Roy's vision and commitment, plus the dedication of those who serve up a world of magic. And all of it is deliciously Disney.

Filled with a heartfelt narrative and behind-the-scenes anecdotes, mouth-watering food photos, gorgeous Walt Disney Imagineering concept artwork, nostalgic restaurant menus and ephemera, and a little Disney magic, this cookbook-meets-culinary-history coffee table book enchants with more than sixty recipes. Including an assortment of appetizers, main courses, sides, desserts, and even joyful libations, these dishes come from fine-dining and quick-service establishments across the resort. Each has been tested by home chefs to help you bring your cherished vacation memories to life . . . and inspire new ones for years to come.

The Cover looked great, but the contents were totally not what I was looking for. Particularly I wanted the DOLE WHIP recipe. The recipe in the book was Dole Whip inspired :(. The Images and Illustrations seemed dated...promptly returned

I had hoped this book would be different from past Disney Parks recipe books, but in many ways, it was worse. Let’s start with the hard binding isn’t at all conducive to a cookbook which is what this is supposed to be. They only added “stories” to the title because the publisher simply didn’t have enough to fill the page count they needed to make their price-point. I worked in publishing for over a decade, I know a stretch when I see one. Next, let’s address that a sizable portion of the recipe contained in this book are well over 3 decades old in that they haven’t been made on property for at least that long. I couldn’t care less about that many recipes few have ever heard of let alone tried. Getting back to the filling a book w fluff issue. There is simply WAY too much story text in here. Honestly, there are dozens of books w that info in it. I would buy them if that’s what I wanted. But no, they needed to fill a book very weak on content, so we got a lot of big photos w stories taking up valuable real estate that would have been better served on recipes. Of the recipes they did include, I haven’t heard of or tasted most of them! That’s coming from someone who has been visiting Disney parks as an adult for 30 years. That’s exceptionally disappointing. I haven’t tried to make any of the recipes yet, but if this book is like past books, they’re going to be nothing like their namesake either. Calling something “Dole Whip inspired “ is NOT a Dole Whip recipe. Anything can be inspired by anything else. That’s weak sauce (pun intended). In the end, I’d return this is Amazon didn’t make returns so cumbersome now. Save your money. Skip this.

So I thought this was going to be current recipes being used to celebrate the 50th in the park. That’s not what this is. This is a cookbook full of recipes from WDW’s early years. Each recipe comes with a bit of history. Going in knowing that’s what this cookbook is, it is a great addition to my cookbook library.

Love this recipe book. Lots of little stories, etc that accompany the recipes. This is a must have for any Disney aficionados!

As a cookbook it is very poorly laid out. At least every other page is a full page color photo (ad) for Disney. As a result the actual recipes can be stretched out over several pages making them difficult to follow. Most of the recipe pages have pictures that take up a quarter of the page. That results in part of the recipe being printed off to the side of the picture and the rest of the recipe in the lower half of the page. The recipes look good, but the cost is ridiculous. I realize color printing is very expensive, but Disney could have left out some of the ads to bring the cost down.
