I didn't read the first book because I watched the Netflix series. So bought this one to check if the writer could actually write a good story, and she can but with a particular formula. I have now read number 3 and tired of the formula, so not going to bother with the others because they will probably follow the same pattern which is predictable. I also know that Colin marrys Penelope beause it is is at the end of the second book if you are concentrating!! No competition with Jane Austen because all of her books are very different and the tantalising sexual tension in Austen's books are probably preferable to many readers than the overt sex scenes in these books.

Lord Bridgerton has decided that it is time to marry. He is therefore looking for a suitable wife, but definitely does not want to fall in love with the selected candidate. The only problem is the sister of his preferred choice. Kate does not deem Anthony a suitable husband for her sister, Edwina, as she suspects that he does not love her sister and he is a really aggravating person who annoys Kate no end. A fun, romantic read with some great moments of comedy and lovely characters.

It was soooo refreshing to read a book that has been well edited, with no grammatical errors or spelling errors, no mis-used words and a plot that flows smoothly with no inconsistencies! I've always loved Julia Quinn's books, especially the Bridgerton series. I had read this book in hardback a number of years ago, but rereading it was still a joy. In fact, I'm going to reread All of the books in this series. Ms. Quinn is a gifted author with a unique ability to tell an engaging story. In this story, the H is Anthony B. and the h is Katherine (Kate), who is the overlooked older sister of Edwina. Kate and Edwina's father had died and the family was on a limited budget. As a result, both sisters were having their first Season together, even though Kate was almost 21 and Edwina was barely 18. Kate screened all the suitors for Edwina's hand and didn't want the H to court her because he was a Rake. As far as the H was concerned, Edwina was a perfect match because he didn't want to love his wife and felt sure that Edwina fit in that regard. In her attempts to protect Edwina, the h and H were constantly at odds. However, that gave the H the opportunity to really get to know the h and he realized that he liked what he saw, even though he was going to have to struggle not to fall in love with the h. Ms. Quinn draws her characters so well that you feel their emotions with them. There are several mildly described sex scenes, but no profanity except an occasional "damn" from the H. All in all, you can't go wrong with this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys romance books.

I can't imagine having such a certainty that your gonna die at a particular age. Poor Anthony actually thinking he could control whether or not he falls in love, because that would make dying so much harder. It's definitely a crazy notion to get in ur head, especially considering that accidents happen all the time and you can die at anytime. There are no guarantees of how long anybody will live. And I'm glad Anthony was able to learn this in the end; to live each day as if is his last and to make the most of it, to love Kate and live life to the fullest. It just goes to show that if we let our fears control us we keep ourselves from living our best lives.

After watching Bridgertons on Netflix I went ahead and read this book to continue the fun. And yes it was fun! Predictable in many ways, silly, and very fun. I devoured it in about 2 days. I only gave it 3 stars because I have one big concern about a scene in the book. I very much hope they soften this issue if they adapt it for netflix. Anthony and Kate have a very "Jack and Diane from cheers/Jess and Nick from new girl" sort of energy. Which is fun overall and totally fine. However, towards the beginning of the book there is a scene in the office that would fit the definition of sexual assault in my opinion. Especially given the huge power differentials between men and women at the time, age, experience, wealth. She is scared of him in this scene. It isn't cute or funny. Not romantic, actually extreamly upsetting and not ok. If Netflix doesn't fix this for the show there will definitely be upset fans.
