Loved this latest instalment of this series Great read with a whole host of new characters to look forward to in coming books. The two main characters are full of depth and have flaws which endear them to the reader. They really are great together Also loved that a few of the characters from the main series are in this second spin off tale, I miss those brothers lol My only gripe is the sort of cliff hanger ending which I'm not use to with Ms Ward , just really hope it's not too long until the next one........... Enjoy 😉

I've been reading the BDB books for well over 10 years, and, as with most things there have been a few misses together with the hits. One thing could be said about all those books though and that is that the unique writing style of Ms Ward shone through them all - until now. As with the first book in the Prison Camp series the tone is just... it's just wrong. It doesn't 'sound' like JR Ward! The writing is sloppy and uninspired, the sex scenes (which usually blow my socks off) are, quite frankly, a little dull. I didn't warm to the lead characters - at all - I really couldn't have cared less what happened to them! And I'm confused. Honest to goodness confused. Why, after all these years and all these books are we suddenly getting a Wolven added to the mix? With the Chosen previously being able to see everything that went on on Earth, don't you think someone would have mentioned their existence before? With all of the gadgets that V has, with how he trawls the Internet, are we seriously supposed to believe that Wrath and the Brothers don't know of another species sharing Caldwell? And, if they do infact know of the Wolven, why have they never been mentioned before? It's too weird for me that a few are suddenly written into this story (only Lucan in any detail) and no-one bats an eyelid!! Another thing I don't understand is why, in the middle of this story, do we suddenly get a sex scene with V. It was, for me, completely out of place and added absolutely nothing to the story. It was... odd! (And I know he has rather unusual tastes but are we really expected to believe that Butch and Marissa sat in on his session? Butch I could kinda believe, at a stretch but Marissa? Nope. Nu-uh. Never). All in all I think the best way to sum this up for me was disappointing, even more so if JR Ward did actually pen this tale and it wasn't written by a (far less talented) ghost writer. Either get things back to the way they were or give it up, this was another (re book one) epic fail

Rio is a human female, she is a an undercover cop working for a drug dealer named Mozart ---- the major supplier in Caldwell. Rio has worked. Her way up.to being one.of his top lieutenants but has not managed to get a face to.face meeting with Mozart yet. One.night her life take a drastic turn. She is supposed to be meeting with a new potential.supplier when she gets a phone call warning that her cover has been blown and her life is in danger. Lucan, is a Wolven/Vampire hybrid who has been imprisoned in the Vampire faces jail.since.The 80s when the prison was destroyed in the last book he wasn't able to.escape so.ended up.at the new facility with about five hundred other.prisoners. The new man in charge at the prison wants to keep.it business as usual and arrange for the sake of the drugs he has the prisoners processing. Lucas is his go between, sent out into.downtown Caldwell to find Mozart and make a deal with him. In return Lucan and his friends get to keep on living so good deal. On this cold dark night when Rio finally arrives at the meet Lucan is waiting for her but before a deal.can be struck a car appears and gunshots ring out aimed at Rio. This begins the second of the prison camp books, and the action doesn't let up.from that first meeting Rio is in deep trouble and Lucan can't stop.himself from trying to help, even though he is in no position to do anything he can't bring himself.to.walk away. There's no chance of them both surviving what is to come.but they will.both go down fighting. As very this a well written book with a few of the brotherhood showing up mainly for some light relief. My only complaint even though the book comes in at 380 pages it ends on a cliffhanger and we are going.to have to wait for book three to.find.out what comes next.

I'm torn on my rating for this book. Yes, it was classic Warden and I loved all the parts of it. But it really didn't feel like a Prison Camp book. I understand there's only been one other book, so how can I say what it does or doesn't feel like, but seriously, very little happened at the actual prison camp. I really loved Rio, she's feisty and kick-butt and a great cop. And Lucan, well, he was swoony and yummy. We didn't get a whole lot of him in book 1, so it wasn't like I had preconceived notions for him, but he is all that and a bag of chips. Honestly, this book really felt like it was the next book in the BDB world. It dealt heavily with V and his "issues" that Jane masterfully helps him with. It gave long time readers a healthy dose of a beloved character we have all been begging for more of and finally get, BUT none of this had anything to do with the Prison Camp. That aspect of this book was very diluted, and I kept clamoring for more of the action within the prison itself. I shouted for joy at discovering a character I thought was lost in book 1 is in fact, alive, and I wanted SO much more of that storyline, but apparently, or should I say, hopefully - that story arc will come full circle in the next book or books? I wanted so badly to see a big "reunion" happen, but it didn't, at least yet. I felt like a whole bunch of plot lines were left unfinished in this book, both prison camp and BDB related, so it will be interesting to see how the Warden moves forward with them. I was left a little bereft at how abruptly this book ends. I guess there's what you'd call an HEA for Rio and Lucan? I'm not even sure, since the story stopped so suddenly. I just know I'm dying to see what's next in the third book. Overall, I loved the story, I loved seeing so many beloved BDB characters, but I didn't feel like their appearances in this book contributed at all to the Prison Camp series. They really should have been in an upcoming BDB book, as the Warden is really a master at weaving all these side stories through the main couples book without taking away from their story. Weaving them all through this book really took away from Rio and Lucan and I felt like they were the side characters instead of the main couple. There's several loose ended questions I've written down that made no sense or added anything to this story, but perhaps those questions will be answered in the next book. I'm super curious to see who is up next - will it be Apex, or Mayhem, or perhaps someone else altogether?

Typical of this author to be all over the map. I was really surprised to see so much of V in this book, I like V! So I enjoyed that. But her first prison camp book I liked more cause if was just the couple and the story was intense without all the jumping around. I thought there wasn’t enough of Rio and Lucan. Hell V and Jane had a better sex scene, then this couple. They took way too long to get together and then bam, it’s over. For Rio to be so freaked out about the wolf and then almost instantly she’s all in. I read this book fast and the story kept moving forward. But also I was shocked about Butch his old partner, so he has been seeing him from time to time.WTF. She tied that up nicely as well. And I love the brothers as always. But again the last book was just more one on one with the couple. She sure set up the next book, I hope she will give the rest of the prisoners a HEA as well. I really don’t see how this prison camp has been kept a secret from the brotherhood. That part does not ring true. That being said,I will certainly read the next book in this series. Was I entertained, yes I was.
