My son hates to read, but we have to get those 20 minutes in. Enter "Wings of Fire Graphic Novels". No more complaining! And since they have not made one for each book in the series, I encouraged my son to read the next chapter book so he could find out what happened. He had now read 5 chapter books since September!!! And he got his little brother reading them too!!! You will not regret buying into this series if you are hoping to get young boys interested in reading!!

My 7y/o dragon loving son absolutly loved this. We tried to read the main novel, but never finished it. This graphic version he finished on his own in a couple of days. Already have #2 pre-ordered.

I was very disappointed to learn that later books in the series introduce lesbian dragon characters. These are children's novels, and that is out of place. Sadly, we found this out after my children had started to really enjoy the series. If you prefer for sexual orientation to be left out of stories for kids, I recommend not starting this series.

Love these books for my 8 year old who hates reading. She loves the pictures, but more importantly, she's reading! It is above her reading level, so they have several words she's unfamiliar with. However, she gets most of the meanings from pictures and context. We did read alot of it together at first. My biggest complaint is that the print is quite small and not super easy to read font. The books are quite long and the story has layers with a little bit of back and forth between character plots and time or dreams, that could confuse some kids. But she seemed to understand most of this. Just a note for some parents, there are a lot of fight scenes ( some to the death) and some sacasm that might be lost on younger kids.

The five stars is from my kid, who has read all of the books in the series so far, most of them multiple times. This graphic novel is a faithful interpretation of the first Wings of Fire book. The Wings of Fire series is at around 10 books so far, with at least five more to go and a few books outside the main chronology. The artwork is decent, with a style similar in nature to other comics that target this age group. The book is vividly colored and the dragons are drawn pretty much as they are described in the series. One thing for parents to be aware of is that much of the violent content in the original novel has also made the transition to comic book form. There are quite a few dragons being killed, sometimes rather gruesomely. With the success of the ongoing series, I expect that this will not be a one-off. As this parallels the first book, it is also a good jumping off point for getting reluctant readers to jump into the novels.
